Eye health is a common concern among the geriatric population. Prevention, early detection and treatment can prevent the myriad of eye diseases that are associated with aging and chronic illnesses. NC Elder Care has developed a team of vision specialists to provide a practical and necessary addition to mobile health care services offered in our area. According to The American Foundation for the Blind, up to 50% of nursing home residents are visually impaired – often severely. These impairments often go unrecognized, unreported, or simply accepted as part of the natural aging process. However, impaired vision increases fall risks, creates difficulty in performing day-to-day tasks, and increases dependence upon others. It may also produce depression and anxiety in many residents and complicate other medical issues.
Our mobile vision services include comprehensive eye examinations including annual eye exams and screening eye exams (i.e. diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma; macular degeneration; cataracts) and personalized treatment options. We also provide prescription eye glasses and contact lenses with fitting/adjustment assistance from our skilled optician. Our expertise and quality of care will provide residents with tools they need to retain or regain their independence and wellness.
