Andrea Croom

Nurse Practitioner

21 Yrs. of Practice

Overview

I bring over 20 years of nursing experience with a strong foundation in critical care before becoming a Nurse Practitioner in 2014. Throughout my career, I have focused on providing high-quality, patient-centered care and improving outcomes for older adults. I have experience in primary care, long-term care, and home-based care, which has given me a deep understanding of the complex medical and social needs of the geriatric population.

In addition to my clinical work, I serve in a leadership role with the Carolina Chapter of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA), where I help support education, mentorship, and professional development for nurse practitioners. I am passionate about advancing geriatric care, building strong care teams, and improving the patient and family experience. I also hold an MBA, which allows me to combine clinical excellence with leadership, quality improvement, and healthcare innovation.
This passion for caring for older adults is deeply personal and continues to shape the way I approach patient care every day.

My passion for geriatric care is deeply personal. My grandmother, who is turning 95 this year, has always been my inspiration. She reminds me every day that older adults still deserve to be heard, respected, and receive high-quality care, regardless of their age or cognitive challenges.

I chose this specialty because I believe every patient has a story, and I take pride in taking the time to listen. Too often, older adults—especially those with memory changes or dementia—are overlooked or not fully heard. I find it incredibly rewarding to advocate for them, support their independence, and partner with families to ensure they receive compassionate, thoughtful care.

For me, geriatric care is about more than managing medical conditions. It’s about preserving dignity, honoring life experiences, and building meaningful relationships that truly make a difference.
