Valerie Scheid, AGNP-C

View Bio

Valerie is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She began her nursing career in 2000, after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill. She worked as a nurse for over 19 years in a variety of settings before deciding to go back to pursue her nurse practitioner degree. She completed the AGNP program and received her Master of Nursing in Adult Gerontology Primary Care from Maryville University in 2021. Although she may be newer in her role as an NP, Valerie comes with over 23 years of varied nursing experience in many specialties including the operating room, maternity services, school health, case management, and primary care. Her desire to go back to school and pursue an advanced practice degree stemmed from her passion for helping people and wanting to do more. As a nurse practitioner, Valerie strives to build relationships with her patients, work in partnership with them, and provide them with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to set and achieve personal health goals. She admits the most rewarding part of her job is seeing her patients improve their overall health and reach their set health goals.

Valerie is married with two young adult children. For her, family is everything. When not working, she enjoys weekend get-togethers and quality time with her family and friends. Another one of her favorite things to do is travel with her family…whether it’s a local weekend glamping trip in the camper or an extended trip abroad. One day she is hoping to say she has been to all 50 states and several countries.

She has a Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Andrea believes that the best way to provide high-quality patient care is to acknowledge each patient’s individuality and meet them at the point of their need. Care should be patient-focused with the patient at the center of decision-making. Health, wellness, and illness should be viewed through the lens of the patient as a whole. Patient care should be holistic and compassionate with an emphasis on educating the patient while building a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust and best evidenced-based practice. Andrea enjoys all aspects of family medicine but she has a special love for geriatric patients. NC Elder Care is lucky to have Andrea returning to provide care for its residents.
